Brief Summary of Publication
“Dominion: How Christians Are Taking Dominion Over The World,” encourages Christians to take control of all aspects of society to bring about a Christian Society. Holland argues that God has called Christians to exert dominion over every area of life, including government, education, business, media, and the arts.
The book lays out the Biblical basis for the concept of dominion; several verses cited as authority for Christians to act are:
1. Genesis 1:26-28 (King James Version): “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
2. Psalm 8:3-8 (King James Version): “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have Dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.”
3. Genesis 2:15 (King James Version): “And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.”
These passages are interpreted as giving humanity Dominion over the earth and all living creatures, and as mandating the responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
Holland cites the tremendous success Christians have had when Dominion was exerted. Holland points to examples such as the growth of the Christian church in Africa, the success of Christian businesses and entrepreneurs, and the influence of Christian media and entertainment on popular culture. The document also highlights the charitable works and social justice initiatives that Christians have undertaken, such as providing aid to the poor, fighting human trafficking, and advocating for religious freedom.
Holland argues that Christians have a unique ability to bring about positive change in the world because of their faith in Jesus Christ. The book emphasizes the gospel’s transformative power and the Holy Spirit’s role in empowering believers to overcome obstacles and achieve great things. The author also stresses the importance of unity among Christians, arguing that they can only hope to exert significant influence on society by working together.
Throughout the book, Holland uses language and imagery that is intended to inspire and motivate readers to take action. Holland speaks of the “glorious future” that awaits Christians who take Dominion, and of the “mighty works” that God will accomplish through them. The book also includes testimonials from Christians who have experienced success and fulfillment through their efforts to take Dominion in their respective fields.
The book concludes with a call to action, urging readers to commit themselves to Dominion’s cause and seek God’s guidance in determining how they can best use their talents and resources to further His kingdom.
